Top Ten Tuesday 9/27/16: Books on my Fall TBR!

Top Ten Tuesday was originally started by The Broke And The Bookish, where a topic is given every Tuesday and the blogger then produces a top ten list of books to fit the weekly subject. The topic this week is Top Ten Audio Freebie so, due to my recent obsession, I have chosen ‘Top Ten Books on my Fall TBR!‘ so here they are!:

So what is on your TBR for this fall? Leave me a comment down below! 😀

Sectional Saturdays #8 So hey, I’m not dead!

Sooo…

I have been off and on for months. Almost a year.

giphy

A lot has happened in a year. A lot.

I actually… have only read 2-3 books since then.

tumblr_nc4piov8x91tfbtrwo1_400

I KNOW, I KNOW. >____<;

But, something just… blocked me. I’ve been trying to read, and while I have gotten some done…

I just can’t focus.

giphy1

But it’s not all bad.

I actually have started some self improvements.

I’m in therapy for one.

giphy2

And it hopefully will help me better myself.

I have also made some really great friends. I see these friendships lasting for a very very long time. They have kept me whole while others try to break me even further.

I will have to give thought to what I want to do with my blog, I still want to do book reviews, but it might not just be it. ^^;

Anyways, I think I might be going for now, I’ve been very distracted in writing this and I don’t want to leave it as a draft. X_X

99 Days by Katie Cotugno

Title: 99 Days

Author: Katie Cotugno

Series: No.

Format: ARC

Page Count: 384

Publisher: Balzer + Bray

Age Range: 16+

Genre: Contemporary/Young Adult/Romance/Social Issues

Description on Goodreads:

Day 1: Julia Donnelly eggs my house my first night back in Star Lake, and that’s how I know everyone still remembers everything—how I destroyed my relationship with Patrick the night everything happened with his brother, Gabe. How I wrecked their whole family. Now I’m serving out my summer like a jail sentence: Just ninety-nine days till I can leave for college, and be done.

Day 4: A nasty note on my windshield makes it clear Julia isn’t finished. I’m expecting a fight when someone taps me on the shoulder, but it’s just Gabe, home from college and actually happy to see me. “For what it’s worth, Molly Barlow,” he says, “I’m really glad you’re back.”

Day 12: Gabe got me to come to this party, and I’m actually having fun. I think he’s about to kiss me—and that’s when I see Patrick. My Patrick, who’s supposed to be clear across the country. My Patrick, who’s never going to forgive me.

Review:

Well. This is one whopper of a book. I did not expect to like this book as much as I did. When I first recieved it from the wonderful Heather Doss at Harper, (thank you again!), I was skeptical. Very skeptical. I know How to Love had been hyped quiiitteee a bit on Twitter and on Booktube… but I had heard very little about 99 Days. Heck, part of me forgot it was even coming out.

This book will live up to any of the hype it gets. Despite some iffy subject matter, I really enjoyed this book. I flew through it, and while I did have some problems with a few characters, the over all development was nice. The story building was nice, and a bit refreshing. It’s been a little bit since I read it; and I still find myself thinking about Molly.

I really found myself emotionally charged and invested in the story. I still want more! I need to know! I felt like a teen again, caught in what felt like “real life” was. It actually motivated me to grab her first book!

This book comes out on the 21st!

My Rating: 4/5

Would I/Who would I recommend it (too): Anyone who needs a good reminder of youth/Loves drama/Loves soap operas.

Everbound by Brodi Ashton

Title: Everbound

Author: Brodi Ashton

Series: Yes.

Format: Hardcover.

Page Count: 358

Publisher: Balzer + Bray

Age Range: 15+

Genre: Fantasy, Paranormal, Romance, Young Adult

Description on Goodreads:

Nikki Beckett could only watch as her boyfriend, Jack, sacrificed himself to save her, taking her place in the Tunnels of the Everneath for eternity — a debt that should’ve been hers. She’s living a borrowed life, and she doesn’t know what to do with the guilt. And every night Jack appears in her dreams, lost and confused and wasting away.

Desperate for answers, Nikki turns to Cole, the immortal bad boy who wants to make her his queen — and the one person least likely to help. But his heart has been touched by everything about Nikki, and he agrees to assist her in the only way he can: by taking her to the Everneath himself.

Nikki and Cole descend into the Everneath, only to discover that their journey will be more difficult than they’d anticipated — and more deadly. But Nikki vows to stop at nothing to save Jack — even if it means making an incredible sacrifice of her own.

In this enthralling sequel to Everneath, Brodi Ashton tests the bonds of destiny and explores the lengths we’ll go to for the ones we love.

Review:

I could not have loved this more. If I wasn’t already a fangirl of Ms. Ashton’s writing, I would be after this. This is actually the book that broke my fear of secondbookitous. Without being too spoilery, what Nikki goes through in this section of the Everneath series has to be one of the most heartwrenching things I have read in a book in years. We were introduced to some new, very well rounded characters, and delved a bit deeper into some already established ones.I have to say, I really started to like Cole in this one. Just the sheer personality that you see in this one, how far he is willing to go for Nikki… it’s damning. No pun intended. An amazing installment to this series. I cannot wait to read the last book. 🙂

My Rating: 4.5/5

Would I/Who would I recommend it (too):

Anyone who likes a good paranormal romance, great twists and good adventure.

Book Haul; the one with the random romance! {2/18/2015}

Hello!

This is the first time I am actually doing a book haul on my blog and not just my booktube!

The first 3 books were very kindly given to me by my landlady.

The first book is Saving Grace by Julie Garwood.

20150218_120213

When Lady Johanna learned that she was a widow, she vowed she would never marry again. Only sixteen, already she possessed a strength of will that impressed all who looked past her golden-haired beauty. Yet when King John demanded that she remarry and selected a bridegroom for her—it seemed she must acquiesce, until her beloved foster brother suggested she wed his friend, the handsome Scottish warrior Gabriel MacBain.

At first Johanna was shy, but as Gabriel tenderly revealed the splendid pleasures they would share, she came to suspect that she was falling in love with her gruff new husband. And it was soon apparent to the entire Highlands clan that their brusque, gallant laird had surrendered his heart completely. But now a desperate royal intrigue threatened to tear her from his side—and to destroy the man whose love meant more to her than she had ever dreamed!

The second book is also by Julie Garwood, it’s Prince Charming

20150218_120231

Only her beloved grandmother, Lady Esther, knew how devastated Taylor Stapleton had been when her fiancé eloped with Taylor’s cousin. Now dear Esther — one of London’s richest and most formidable matriarchs — lies dying. But first she was going to help Taylor pull off the scam of the season.

To escape becoming a ward of her unscrupulous uncle, Taylor would wed Lucas Ross, a rugged American rancher. Lady Esther’s money would enable Ross to return home to Montana. Taylor had her own urgent reason to go to America…a precious legacy she hadn’t revealed to Ross, for they had agreed to part ways once they reached Boston. But as her handsome new husband spoke of life in Montana, Taylor began planning a new future. To Taylor, the wide-open spaces of Montana sounded like paradise….

And the final book from here was also by the same author; For the Roses by Julie Garwood

20150218_120248

1879. In Blue Belle, Montana, everyone knew better than to mess with the Claybornes. The brothers had once been a mismatched gang of street urchins — until they found an abandoned baby girl in a New York city alley, named her Mary Rose, and headed west to raise her to be a lady. They became a family — held together by loyalty and love if not by blood — when suddenly they faced a crisis that threatened to tear them apart….

Trouble came to town with one Lord Harrison Stanford MacDonald. Armed with a swagger and six-shooter, he cut a striking figure — but it soon became apparent to Mary Rose that he was too much of a gentleman to make it in her rough-and-tumble town. She asked her brothers to teach him the basics of frontier survival, which he acquired with ease. And soon he possessed a deep and desperate love for Mary Rose. She returned his affection wholeheartedly… until MacDonald revealed a secret that challenged everything she believed about herself, her life, and her newfound love. Now her search for identity and meaning would begin, raising questions that could only be answered if she listened to the truth within her heart….

Now, this one is actually the start to a 4 book series, while the other two are standalones. I am not normally the pure romance type; but I am more than willing to give them a go!

Now, onto the others!

The next two books were sent to me from First Second Publishing for an honest review!!

Thank you, First Second!

20150218_120154

First off is Sleepless Knight by James Sturm , Alexis Frederick-Frost, Andrew Arnold

The Knight can’t wait for her first camping trip! She and her horse Edward pack everything they need — including her beloved Teddy – and head out into the woods. But when it’s time for bed, Teddy is nowhere to be found!

A helpful racoon thinks this “Teddy” sounds familiar, and sends the Knight off to a cave… but that’s no teddy bear in that cave. That’s a bear!

In this sweet, simple adventure, basic comics elements combine with the picture book format to create a picture book for the youngest of comics readers, and a fantastic introduction into the world of Adventures in Cartooning.
This is absolutely adorable. I already read this, and think it is amazing. I will have a review ASAP!
The second is The Sculptor by Scott McCloud!
20150218_120111
David Smith is giving his life for his art—literally. Thanks to a deal with Death, the young sculptor gets his childhood wish: to sculpt anything he can imagine with his bare hands. But now that he only has 200 days to live, deciding  what  to create is harder than he thought, and discovering the love of his life at the 11th hour isn’t making it any easier! This is a story of desire taken to the edge of reason and beyond; of the frantic, clumsy dance steps of young love; and a gorgeous, street-level portrait of the world’s greatest city. It’s about the small, warm, human moments of everyday life…and the great surging forces that lie just under the surface. Scott McCloud wrote the book on how comics work; now he vaults into great fiction with a breathtaking, funny, and unforgettable new work.

This book, I already have a review up and… OH DEAR LORD. It is… just..  wow. Click here for the review!
This next book is something a friend of mine, Keeley LOVES! And that is Shutter by Courtney Alameda
20150218_120042
Horror has a new name: introducing Courtney Alameda.Micheline Helsing is a tetrachromat—a girl who sees the auras of the undead in a prismatic spectrum. As one of the last descendants of the Van Helsing lineage, she has trained since childhood to destroy monsters both corporeal and spiritual: the corporeal undead go down by the bullet, the spiritual undead by the lens. With an analog SLR camera as her best weapon, Micheline exorcises ghosts by capturing their spiritual energy on film. She’s aided by her crew: Oliver, a techno-whiz and the boy who developed her camera’s technology; Jude, who can predict death; and Ryder, the boy Micheline has known and loved forever.

When a routine ghost hunt goes awry, Micheline and the boys are infected with a curse known as a soulchain. As the ghostly chains spread through their bodies, Micheline learns that if she doesn’t exorcise her entity in seven days or less, she and her friends will die. Now pursued as a renegade agent by her monster-hunting father, Leonard Helsing, she must track and destroy an entity more powerful than anything she’s faced before . . . or die trying.

Lock, stock, and lens, she’s in for one hell of a week.

Oh man. I have wanted a book like this for so long. I cannot WAIT to dive into it!
The next book has been working it’s way around the blog world and booktube, it’s Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard!
20150218_115826
The poverty stricken Reds are commoners, living under the rule of the Silvers, elite warriors with god-like powers. To Mare Barrow, a 17-year-old Red girl from The Stilts, it looks like nothing will ever change.

Mare finds herself working in the Silver Palace, at the centre of
those she hates the most. She quickly discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy Silver control.

But power is a dangerous game. And in this world divided by blood, who will win?

This book caught me by the reigns, and dragged me in. Hopefully it actually lives up to the hype!
The next book was a gift from a wonderful friend on reddit; Neil Gaiman’s American Gods!
20150218_120131
Days before his release from prison, Shadow’s wife, Laura, dies in a mysterious car crash. Numbly, he makes his way back home. On the plane, he encounters the enigmatic Mr Wednesday, who claims to be a refugee from a distant war, a former god and the king of America.Together they embark on a profoundly strange journey across the heart of the USA, whilst all around them a storm of preternatural and epic proportions threatens to break.

Scary, gripping and deeply unsettling, AMERICAN GODS takes a long, hard look into the soul of America. You’ll be surprised by what and who it finds there…

This is the author’s preferred text, never before published in the UK, and is about 12,000 words longer than the previous UK edition.

She and my husband keep suggesting Neil Gaiman! 😀 I am currently reading another book by him (coming in my ebook haul!) and loooving it!
This next one is a in between novella of one of my recent favorite series; the Lunar Chronicles: Fairest by Marissa Meyer! 😀
20150218_115907
In this stunning bridge book between Cress and Winter in the bestselling Lunar Chronicles, Queen Levana’s story is finally told.Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Who is the fairest of them all?

Fans of the Lunar Chronicles know Queen Levana as a ruler who uses her “glamour” to gain power. But long before she crossed paths with Cinder, Scarlet, and Cress, Levana lived a very different story – a story that has never been told . . . until now.

Marissa Meyer spins yet another unforgettable tale about love and war, deceit and death. This extraordinary book includes full-color art and an excerpt from Winter, the next book in the Lunar Chronicles series.

I am fighting myself not to read this right now. I am still on Scarlet, but man alive I wanna read about the Queen!
Oh, my love is the next book. I wanted this book immediately after reading the first book.
It is Ignite by Sara B. Larson!
20150218_115751
Murder, abductions, and forbidden romance abound in this thrilling sequel to Sara B. Larson’s acclaimed YA debut, DEFY.Alexa remains by the newly crowned King Damian’s side as his guard, ever committed to helping him rebuild Antion and reclaim the hope of Antion’s people, despite continuing to harbor a secret love for him. However, when another threat to Damian and his kingdom emerges, and blame is cast on their newly forged allies from Blevon, Alexa knows things are not what they seem. With the fate of her nation hanging in the balance once again, will Alexa be able to protect her king and uncover the true enemy — before it’s too late?

looooovvveeeddd Defy. It blew my flipping mind! I cannot WAIT to dive into this.
Oh uh… by the way, I do have an ARC of this book I might just have a giveaway for… ❤
Two more to go!~
Second to last on the chopping block is… The Young Elites by Marie Lu!
20150218_120017
I am tired of being used, hurt, and cast aside.Adelina Amouteru is a survivor of the blood fever. A decade ago, the deadly illness swept through her nation. Most of the infected perished, while many of the children who survived were left with strange markings. Adelina’s black hair turned silver, her lashes went pale, and now she has only a jagged scar where her left eye once was. Her cruel father believes she is a malfetto, an abomination, ruining their family’s good name and standing in the way of their fortune. But some of the fever’s survivors are rumored to possess more than just scars—they are believed to have mysterious and powerful gifts, and though their identities remain secret, they have come to be called the Young Elites.

Teren Santoro works for the king. As Leader of the Inquisition Axis, it is his job to seek out the Young Elites, to destroy them before they destroy the nation. He believes the Young Elites to be dangerous and vengeful, but it’s Teren who may possess the darkest secret of all.

Enzo Valenciano is a member of the Dagger Society. This secret sect of Young Elites seeks out others like them before the Inquisition Axis can. But when the Daggers find Adelina, they discover someone with powers like they’ve never seen.

Adelina wants to believe Enzo is on her side, and that Teren is the true enemy. But the lives of these three will collide in unexpected ways, as each fights a very different and personal battle. But of one thing they are all certain: Adelina has abilities that shouldn’t belong in this world. A vengeful blackness in her heart. And a desire to destroy all who dare to cross her.

It is my turn to use. My turn to hurt.

This book sounds SO good. My friend Richard LOVED this book and it was on BookOutlet… soooo… ❤
The last book is something from an author I am going to start reading this year; Prince of Fools by Mark Lawerence! 😀
20150218_115848
The Red Queen is old but the kings of the Broken Empire dread her like no other. For all her reign, she has fought the long war, contested in secret, against the powers that stand behind nations, for higher stakes than land or gold. Her greatest weapon is The Silent Sister—unseen by most and unspoken of by all.The Red Queen’s grandson, Prince Jalan Kendeth—drinker, gambler, seducer of women—is one who can see The Silent Sister. Tenth in line for the throne and content with his role as a minor royal, he pretends that the hideous crone is not there. But war is coming. Witnesses claim an undead army is on the march, and the Red Queen has called on her family to defend the realm. Jal thinks it’s all a rumor—nothing that will affect him—but he is wrong.

After escaping a death trap set by the Silent Sister, Jal finds his fate magically intertwined with a fierce Norse warrior. As the two undertake a journey across the Empire to undo the spell, encountering grave dangers, willing women, and an upstart prince named Jorg Ancrath along the way, Jalan gradually catches a glimmer of the truth: he and the Norseman are but pieces in a game, part of a series of moves in the long war—and the Red Queen controls the board.

I have heard so many good things about this author, I am slowly upping my epic fantasy and cannot wait to sink my fangs into this one!
Anyways, I will be posting my eBook Haul soon enough and possibly another physical book haul! 😀
Have you read any of these? Have you wanted any of these? Leave me some comments! 😀

Divergent by Veronica Roth; or why did I take so long to read this?

Title: Divergent

Author: Veronica Roth

Series: Yes, first of a trilogy.

Age Range: I would say 16 and up.

Genre: Young Adult, Dystopian, Adventure, Political

Would I recommend it to anyone: Kind of. I would to anyone who wants a good thrill ride.

Description on Goodreads:

In Beatrice Prior’s dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue–Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is–she can’t have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out the choice they have made. Together they must undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. As initiation transforms them all, Tris must determine who her friends really are–and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes exasperating boy fits into the life she’s chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she’s kept hidden from everyone because she’s been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers unrest and growing conflict that threaten to unravel her seemingly perfect society, Tris also learns that her secret might help her save the ones she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

Review:

Soooo. I picked this book up, put it down. Up, down, up, down.. for months. I just kept getting distacted and picking up other books. It’s wasn’t it’s fault. I have ADD. This happens sometimes. Or, it would be too intense for what I needed at that moment. But, recently I picked it back up and wiped it out in a matter of days.

I absolutely loved the world building. I actually felt like I was sucked deep into the world, when Tris was first in Abnegation, training in Dauntless and so on, I wanted to take on the enemy by her side.

This book truly is worth the hype it has. The emotions, the adrenline rush that I had with almost every chapter..! I never wanted it to end!

In the end I had to give it a 4.5 out of 5 though. It was brillant, but something… something felt missing. Maybe Insurgent will be different. 🙂

My Rating: 4.5/5

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

Title: The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer

Author: Michelle Hodkin

Series: Yes, first of a trilogy.

Age Range: I would say 16 and up.

Genre: Young Adult, Mystery, Paranormal, Psychological Thriller

Would I recommend it to anyone: Someone who wants a mind bending.

Description on Goodreads:

Mara Dyer doesn’t think life can get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there.

It can.

She believes there must be more to the accident she can’t remember that killed her friends and left her mysteriously unharmed.

There is.

She doesn’t believe that after everything she’s been through, she can fall in love.

She’s wrong.

Review:

As with most books, I went into this blind. I didn’t know what to expect of it, and quite frankly I still don’t. That excites me. From the very beginning you are on a mind trip with miss “Mara Dyer”. Something has happened, something terrible. I am not going to give any spoilers, even from the beginning. I will say that this was a VERY HARD BOOK TO PUT DOWN. I felt like I WAS Mara, going through the motions, feeling like it was all happening to me. Miss Hodkin’s can really capture you, and mess with your brain. Nothing is what it seems. I like where this series is going and I am definitely moving onto “The Evolution of Mara Dyer” as soon as possible and will be gripping until I can get “The Retribution of Mara Dyer”.
